Liquid investments are assets that can be converted into cash:

  1. easily,
  2. rapidly,
  3. and without losing a substantial amount of their value.

As a consequence, their valuations are generally known with a high degree of certainty.

Conversely, illiquid investments are assets for which at least one of the three conditions above is not satisfied.
